Pneumonia and bronchitis
Well, that whole thing didn't work out did it?
You do a race like that when you are already sick, and you end up with borderline pneumonia and bronchitis and get yelled at by your doctor.
Then you don't get to play with your bike for 2 weeks.
The only upside of the whole deal is that I now understand why real athletes do steroids. I got a monster shot from the doctor and after not being able to even look at a bike for a week, I woke up the next day feeling 100% better and just wanted to tear it up on the bike. Unfortunately, that didn't last. I should have asked for a couple extra injections for later :-)
Note to self: It does not matter if it is a National. If you're sick, your sick.
